version 5

Stolen from neuroaesthetic's flickr photostream:

Ah, the memories. I grew up just down the road from this place, which is off the Rock Creek exit on I-90 between Missoula and Butte, Montana.

They didn't have the Testicle Festival when I was a kid. Instead, it was a big tourist trap called the SNAKE PIT, at least according to the 300 foot tall sign. How awesome is that? It was a ramshckle collection of buildings filled with... wait... SNAKES in cages!

But at some point the Snake Pit failed. My father took me to the auction when it closed and I remember I purchased a large bag of shiny rocks (but no snakes).

Now the Snake Pit is long gone and instead every year they have the Testicle Festival at this location, where thousands of mouth-breathers converge to eat, yes indeed, deep fried bull testicles. Also there appears to be a lot of bad flabby saggy biker nudity going on.

The giant sign is still there, but instead of SNAKE PIT, it says CAMP NOW. See, the new owners wanted to save money, so instead of replacing the sign, they replaced the letters in sort of a giant game of Scrabble:

S N A K E
P I T

became

C A M P
N O W

Leaving a blank tile after CAMP.

Actually I could have just hallucinated that whole thing. And for the record, I never, ever went to said festival. I don't know where those pictures came from, either
